“We do not rise to the level of our expectations. We fall to the level of our training.” ~ Archilochus, Greek Soldier, Poet, c. 650 BC
eSports is especially vulnerable to ineffective training. Most professional athletes or elite performers in traditional sports don’t spend a lot of time playing pickup games in the lot on the corner. However, in most eSports the players spend a bulk of their training time in pick-up games, learning bad habits that may come back to bite them. Even organized training sessions often ingrain bad habits. There is no moment when you “step it up, ’cause it’s game time.” Training IS game time.
